Farm house detail

A detail showing how the thatch was held in place by a series of ropes that lie over the thatched surface and are tied to the tops of the walls. I read that this method was / is particular to the west coast due to the presence of high winds – more easily repaired, loosen off the ropes and add more straw. This particular roof had wood pins inset below the top of the wall to tie off the ropes.
